Crazy Instagram Story

There are some crazy things going on in my life at the moment. One great example would be Instagram kindly featuring my work on their blog and social media sites, resulting in my account currently having 146,000 followers and rising. I’ve compiled this small selection of some of the calligraphy clips from my account there. If you find them interesting please do check out my Instagram page, instagram.com/seblester.

Overnight Instagram has become a powerful platform for me to try to engage people and promote not just my work but the ancient art of calligraphy as a whole. For everyone asking about calligraphy tools and equipment you might like to read my short article ‘Getting Started in Calligraphy’. For everyone asking me how I got into calligraphy I have written about it here.

I feel so lucky to have found what Zapf described as “this peaceful and noble art”. I find it therapeutic and it has strong meditative qualities. I have only been practicing for about three and a half years and so I still have a lot to learn and explore, but I feel I am making rapid progress. As strange as it may sound I really feel a strong emotional connection to this art form. There is also a real synergy between my calligraphy and digital letterform work that I feel is making me a better designer and artist every day. I work very hard and, after some very dark days in the not too distant past, I feel excited excited and grateful for the journey I am on. I hope it continues for a while.

All the music in these clips is by the brilliant Dirk Maassen (maassen-music.com), except for the ‘Dream Big’ clip which features ‘Repetoire’ by Giyo (soundcloud.com/gi-yo).
